How to Prepare for GRE?

Every year, more than 600,000 students attend the GRE Test, Whilst  this test is similar to  college-entrance exams, like the SAT, with vital differences.

GRE is most commonly taken as a computer based test, which means there’s no need of pencils and the test is familiar with bubble sheets.

Comparing the first sets of 20 verbal and Quantitative reasoning questions, the next set of Questions will be harder.

The GRE test has three categories: Verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing.

For the verbal reasoning division, aspirants have 1 hour to answer two sets of 20 questions.

Aspirants should answer two sets of 20 quantitative reasoning, within 1 hour and 10 mins,i.e, 35 minutes is allotted for each set.

  1. What is the equivalent GMAT score for a 320 in GRE? How to do the conversion?

The GRE equivalent of a GMAT score depends on how much you score in the individual sections. For a GRE score of 320 with 160 in Verbal and 160 in Quant, your corresponding GMAT score will be 640. For a GRE score of 320 with 170 in Quant and 150 in Verbal, your corresponding GMAT score will be 680 and so on.

6. I approached this problem slightly differently: The probability of getting at least three right is given by P(3right)+P(4right)+P(5right). The probability of getting one right is 1/3. So the probability of getting three right is (1/3)x(1/3)x(1/3) which is 1/3^3 (1 by 3 power 3). Similarly the probability of getting 4 and 5 right is 1/3^4 and 1/3^5. Adding all three of them we get 13/3^5. I feel this answer is right as we’ve been taught this method of solving in engineering as well..

Here it is given for the multiple choice question.

5 questions are given and each have 3 choices.

Probability of answer correctly = 1/3 and

Probability of answering wrongly = 2/3

Even if we choose the answer correctly we have 2 possible ways for making the answer worng.

Thus for such conditions you need to use the formula,

nCr(P)^r(Q)^n-r

Where P = Probability of getting correct and Q = Probability of getting wrong.

Probability that the student is getting at least three questions correctly = 5C3(1/3)^3(2/3)^2 + 5C4(1/3)^2(2/3)^1 +5C5(1/3)^5(2/3)^0

= 10 x 4 x (1/3)^5 + 5 x 2 (1/3)^5 + 1(1/3)^5

= 40 x (1/3)^5 + 10 x (1/3)^5 + (1/3)^5

= (1/3)^5 x (40 + 10 + 1)

= 51/3^5.

7. I do not understand this rule,square root should be plus or minus.option b should be the right answer

The square root symbol is called the radical. It always maps a non negative real number to non negative real number only.

If x is any non – negative real number, say if x = 4, then = + 2 only.

Note that the value of the simplified radical is positive.

Whereas when you solve the equation x2 = 4, you are trying to find all possible values that might have been squared to get 4. So both + 2 and -2 satisfies the equation.( Also, remember that Quadratic equation will necessarily have two roots or solutions. )

But when you are just simplifying the expression sqrt (x) = sqrt (4), the ONLY answer is “2”; this

positive result is called the “principal” root.

So if we have x = 64, then  = 8. Where as if x2 = 64, then x = ±8

This hold for all numbers.(Both,fractions and integers) The same rule is applied here also.
